Spontanmod

Writing without a plan

Spontanmod is the name for the state I write in when I haven't thought a thing through. The pieces here have no subject in common; what they have in common is that none of them was planned.

Waiting for a piece to ripen is usually the right thing to do. But sometimes waiting kills it. If I don't write a thing down the day it catches me, by the next day it doesn't interest me, and a week later I don't remember it at all. This page is for the things that would otherwise be lost.

Don't look for a common thread here. It might be a match statistic, or what a place I lived in for a long time left behind in me. What they share is that none of it was planned — not thought over and weighed, but written because that was how it arrived.

My song “Spontane”, which is out now, comes from the same place: whenever I make a plan I struggle to keep to it, and most of the time I can't.
